How do I operate Sirius radio?

I just bought a used dodge nitro and i stumbled on to the fact that it has sirius radio. I am uming the other owner had a subscription but will it run out sometime soon? How do I find channels? Should I even bother because I am not willing to pay for a subscription? Any ideas?
